How Claude turned my inbox from a time sink into a few minutes a day

Email used to eat my mornings. Now Claude reads it, helps me actually solve what people are asking, and drafts the replies in my voice — so a message that used to take twenty minutes takes two.

If I’m honest, email used to be the part of the day I dreaded most. Not because any single message was hard — because there were so many, and each one meant stopping, reading, thinking, and writing a careful reply. Multiply that by a full inbox and the morning was gone before I’d done any real work.

Handing my email to Claude changed that more than almost anything else.

Reading: it tells me what actually needs me

The first win is just triage. Instead of scrolling a wall of unread messages trying to figure out what’s urgent, I get the short version: here’s what actually needs you, and here’s what can wait. The noise drops away and I’m left with the handful of messages that matter.

That alone turned “an hour of inbox anxiety” into “here are the four things to deal with.”

Solving: from a customer’s problem to an answer in minutes

This is the part that genuinely surprised me. Someone emails with a problem — a question about how something works, an issue they’ve run into, a request I need to think about. Normally that’s the message I’d leave sitting because it needed real attention.

Now I hand it to Claude: here’s what they’re asking — help me work out the best answer. In a couple of minutes I’ve got the situation understood and a solution mapped out. The thinking that used to make me put the email off is done, and done well.

Sending: replies in my voice, ready to approve

Once I know what I want to say, Claude drafts the reply in my voice — the same tone I’d use, not stiff robot-speak. I read it, adjust a line if I want, and send. I’m approving a reply instead of writing one from scratch.

So the whole loop — read, understand, solve, respond — collapses from twenty minutes of effort into about two minutes of reviewing.

Why it matters beyond the time saved

  • People get answers faster — replies go out same-day instead of “when I get to it”
  • The answers are better — because I’m not rushing a reply just to clear the inbox
  • I stop dropping things — nothing important gets buried under the noise

Faster and better usually don’t go together. With email, they finally do.
