Which AI is good for what (and why I run almost everything through Claude)

There's no single 'best' AI — there's the right tool for the job. Here's how I actually split the work: Gemini and ChatGPT for images, Claude for everything else, and connectors that let any of them do real work.

The question I get more than any other is some version of “which AI should I be using?” People expect a single winner. The honest answer is better than that: it depends on the job. You wouldn’t use one tool for every job around the house, and AI is the same.

Here’s how I actually split it up in practice.

For generating images: Gemini and ChatGPT

When I need to create a picture — a visual for a post, a concept, a quick bit of imagery — I reach for Gemini or ChatGPT. Both are genuinely excellent at image generation, and I’ll bounce between them depending on the look I’m after. This is the one area where I don’t default to Claude, and I’m happy to say so — use the tool that’s best at the task.

If your need is “make me a picture,” that’s where I’d start.

For basically everything else: Claude

Once you’re past image generation, almost all of my actual work runs through Claude — writing, thinking through problems, drafting replies, handling my invoicing and accounting, sorting my inbox, planning, research. Anything that involves understanding a situation and doing something useful with it, Claude is my default.

It’s the tool I trust to sit in the middle of my business and get real things done, reliably, in a way that sounds like me.

The part most people miss: connectors

Here’s the shift that actually changes how a business runs. These AIs aren’t just chat boxes you copy-paste in and out of anymore. They can be given connectors — links to the apps you already use, like your email, calendar, accounting software, CRM, or file storage.

Once an AI is connected to your real tools, it stops just talking about the work and starts doing it:

  • Not “here’s a draft invoice to copy” — it creates and sends the invoice
  • Not “here’s what you could reply” — it drafts the reply right in your inbox
  • Not “you should check your numbers” — it pulls the report and hands it to you

That’s the difference between an AI that answers questions and an AI that takes things off your plate. It’s the whole reason automation is suddenly within reach for normal businesses.

So, which one should you use?

A simple rule of thumb:

  • Making images? Gemini or ChatGPT.
  • Doing the actual work of your business? Claude — especially connected to your tools.
  • Not sure? Start with the job, not the tool. Name the task first, then pick what’s best at it.

The businesses getting the most out of AI right now aren’t the ones that picked the “right” brand. They’re the ones that matched the tool to the job — and then connected it to the systems they already use so it could actually do the work.

If you’d like help figuring out which parts of your business are ready for that, an AI Business Audit is exactly that conversation.
